Every single person has an endocannabinoid system (ECS), whether they’ve consumed hemp products before in their lives or not. The ECS consists of naturally-occurring endocannabinoids (such as anandamide) and their corresponding receptors (such as CB-1 and CB-2 receptors). The ECS is believed to interact with dozens of different internal processes in the body. Endocannabinoids interact with various receptors, and this molecular interaction communicates messages to the body’s central nervous system. We are still far from a complete understanding of the human ECS, but it is an incredibly exciting topic of interest.
CBD is a phytocannabinoid (‘phyto’ meaning plant-based) from hemp that shares a similar molecular structure as the body’s natural endocannabinoids. As such, it interacts with ECS receptors to influence a range of wellness benefits. Feel free to check out our ongoing blog for additional information on the endocannabinoid system.
